As a long suffering user of computers and various electronic gadgets, I know what a pain they can be when users fail to make backups of important data. I am careful to confirm that every device I buy has connectivity features to transfer important data between it, and devices I already own. In the end, most of my contact data was in the Palm Desktop, and I exported all of them to an Excel spreadsheet, split them up by category, moved numbers to the correct column: Home, Business, Fax, etc. Much visual inspection and hand editing was required. I was hoping to automate the process, but the only way to get the numbers in the correct column, is to a)visually check the entry on the original device, and b)know something about the local telephone exchange, so that you can recognize the swapping of cell numbers and hard-lines ( ... )
