And then there is my husband, who is convinced that my sunflowers and hollyhocks are going to GET him.

He says it's the specifically the notion of "plants that are taller than he is" that bothers him. But I don't think that's it, exactly. For example, he isn't scheming to hack down any of the mesquite trees. I think it must be that the sunflowers grew to that height in just a couple months--that for several weeks he could look out the bedroom window and see that the plants were visibly taller than they had been the morning before.

Just in case he hasn't read it yet, you should really steer him toward "Day of the Triffids." We'll get that agoraphobia firmly in place, we will...

Oh! This is my first encounter with him. He's got a lot of stuff out there - anything in particular I should go after when I'm finished with Monster of God (which I'm really enjoying)?

Song of the Dodo is wonderful, but I'm also a tremendous fan of his essays (The Flight of the Iguana, Wild Thoughts from Wild Places).

My experience is that the wild Violet is a lot more like a mountain lion than you might think.

Ho ho ho! How I amuse myself.

Do not make me choke on my coffee! How will I be able to think of something funny to say in response when there is caffeine up my nose?

So far it's very interesting, though not what I expected, exactly. Of course, I am only 50 or so pages in, so that may change. But he is a good writer.

I will commit review, or at least further commentary, when I am finished.
