Right there with ya on the Library Thing. At our local convention this weekend, I'm doing a demo of LT with another librarian. Programming is calling it "Geek Grrls Groove on Library Thing". I can live with it.
And yeah, it's not HTML code! To be perfectly honest, I just googled a math website that was providing examples of intersections, etc, and I copy-pasted one of their symbols into my post. ;)

I'll do it at some point, but buying a barcode scanner right now and paying money to catalogue more than 200 books... the wife, she would very politely question my priorities... with a stick.

But yes, avoid the Damsel-Stick interactions. Those can be nasty.
