It never ceases to amaze me and amuse me, the people who are the most pro-Founding Father and pro-Constitution that then go on to do the opposite of what they wanted ...
The "Founding Fathers" had debates and campaigns almost as rancorous as the ones today (if not more so). They represented many disparate interests, had widely varying philosophies on the political issues of the day, and sometimes came to blows on things.
In a very real sense, doing the "opposite of what they wanted" would be doing exactly what they wanted (for probably differing values of "they", chosen from the set of "Founding Fathers").

I wish the Signers'/Founders' arguements against factions (political parties, thought to be essentially tools of special interests) were more easily understood by modern readers. They wrote some sharp, pithy words on that topic as well!
