All that complex engineering and effort, under difficult (to say the least) conditions, and can you imagine how frustrating it was when their torpedoes failed to score again and again? Apparently due to previously undetected engineering faults US subs were effectively shooting blanks for the first year and a half of World War II.

Have you ever seen the inside of a pinball machine back when the scoreboard was still like an old-fashioned car odometer?

The reason pinball machines are the size they are is because before there were CPUs, pinball machines were all dials and levers and such, and they had to be that big in order to make it all work. Nowadays there's a lot of empty space in the middle of a machine cause electronics are more efficient and smaller.
