Wow! Nice work! We have very similar tastes in literature, you and I, and so I'm going to make a reading suggestion because I did not notice any of his novels on your list: Jose Saramago. You may have seen me plug his books every once and a while, but I think he is absolutely marvelous! If you decide to look into him, I recommend either The Cave or All the Names as starting points. I'm about half way through The Double right now and love that one as well...
So did you end up applying here? If you did, I can mention as much to Len, it will at least guarantee that your application gets looked at instead of relying on GRE scores for that...
ahhh...you read one of my favorite authors! i didn't mention him because i've read him before my starting date. specifically, i've read The Gospel According to Jesus Christ and Blindness. Blindness ranks in my 'top five faves' closer to the top...it alternates between 1st and 2nd. he's amazing. i haven't read the three that you've mentioned so i'll have to be certain to pick one up the next time i browse the public shelves.
alas, i did not apply to memphis. i chose to focus only on political theory in an effort to write less personal statements and choose fewer writing samples. :( i'm optimistic, though, that poli theory will allow me to continue my study of ethics. phenomenology, my either passion, will have to wait for the time being. thanks so much, though, for offering to put in a word for me. it's so hard to be something other than a number in the grad application process and i'm a little nervous, to be honest.

As long as we're making recommendations, you can add just under 400 pages to your total with Nevil Shute's _Round the Bend_. It comes with the official "Cappy's Mom's Seal of Approval."
do comics count, too?mumbledjargonFebruary 3 2005, 17:54:55 UTC
you are such a geek...
but i've always bragged about your amazing reading capabilities! I swear you are the only one i know who can read a book once and retain 98.99999999% of it and still reflect on a specific reading/note/reference/fact/tidbit from some reading you did like 12 years ago!
