Pregnancy: Nesting

Jul 15, 2010 01:40

Pretty sure I've been bitten by the nesting bug. Over the course of the last week, I've practically doubled the amount of clothes we have for Sephie. I'm amazed that she has 98 onesies, five robes and 16 jackets. 16! What in the hell am I going to do with them all?? I updated our spreadsheet and I think we're in a good place for most of our baby ( Read more... )

I cannot believe the $600 he charged for something so simple. Sounds like he took advantage of you. I would demand some money back! He didn't tell you if was going to cost more. He made it sound like an offer of kindness. I'm sorry that happened. I'm mad for you! Sounds like you're getting a lot done which is good because once that baby is here...well you know! Good luck :)

I know. I really did feel taken advantage of. He should have told us how long it would take. He's been a handyman for a long time and I'm sure as soon as he made that offer, he was mentally calculating stripping, sanding, etc. And that's not what I had in mind. I figured he'd just paint it, not stain it. I don't even think any of us would be complaining had he billed out on $200 or so. Even though the crib isn't worth that much, it would have been SO much more reasonable.

I told B's mom she should at least have a conversation for him. If it were just me and B, we would demand our money back, but because he's technically the handyman for B's mom, the bill is on her. And she's just going to pay it, which I don't agree with, but what can you do?

If the refills we have are for a Diaper Genie (and I can find them), would you like me to send them to you?

We never used our DG - we never used/needed a lot of the stuff we were so certain we would need.

"we never used/needed a lot of the stuff we were so certain we would need."

It's funny, but this reasoning is exactly why we've managed to get so many things on the cheap, if not free! I feel fortunate that so many of Sephie's items have been inherited from people that we know, so we have the full history available to us.

But yeah, that would be great. I still need to figure out how to operate it, because the person who gave it to us did so in pieces. :)

Again, I'm impressed and excited about all the things you've gotten done and planned to get done! You are definitely filling the role of "Super-Mommy" already. I couldn't help but laugh when I was reading all the things you've gotten bc I didn't even know that some of them, such as a "wipes warmer" existed, and I can only speculate on what I think a "Sleep Sack" is. Sephie is SO lucky to have you as her mom.

Some of these items I had never heard of until Hayden came along. Like a Sleep Sack--Marji introduced that to me. I don't think any of the nieces and nephews before him had one, and I know my own nephew, Spencer, didn't have one either. So I guess they are a relatively new innovation?

What's interesting is how standard they are. Hayden will turn two on August 11, and already, we've received FOUR sleep sacks from people. That's not so bad because they're divided up by weight (which makes sense, rather than months, in my opinion!) but it's also cool how many options and varieties they have. My friend Tia just sent me a care package of baby items and that includes a Sleep Sack with a built-in swaddler.

Did you know that they have portable or travel wipes warmers now?? I think that's going to be my next purchase.

so, I am definitely impressed with all of the scores you have made! I definitely think you need to start a new public blog about mommying on a budget and share tips and tricks for how to have a baby on a budget. Because you don't have enough to do . . . . ;) heart you a lot!
