I heard that Anne McCaffery was very anti-fanfic. I don't blame her really. Books are so much more personal and intimate - that's why I'd never write fic based on a book. It really does feel like leeching another's creativity.
(and yeah, I could write fic based on loads of Anne Mccaffery worlds too)
I think she she should stop resisting though. The genie is out of the botle, people are going to do it anyway. It does encourage people to write and that's a good thing.
There are a lot of creative people who are anti-fanfic, but in this internet-centric day and age, it's impossible to stop people from making fanfic or fanart. If the author/creator says "no fanfic", there will still be people writing it, just in an underground way, in secret communities or friends-locked LJ posts. Sort of like if you draw something and put it on the internet, it will go everywhere. Comics are particularly plagued with internet-scanning and distribution- if you make a comic, it *will* get scanned and posted somewhere, no matter what the comic is. It's just the nature of the internet culture

Lol! I have this vision of a secret society meeting to dicuss their Robinton/Fandarel slashathon!
Hahaha! Oh, that's just evil!
That doesn't make it right, but really what can they do?
It's sad, but true. Copyright belongs to the people who created stuff, but it costs a ton to prosecute, and prosecuting people over a fanfic is so small potatoes. Plus, it makes the copyright holder look like an ogre to the fans. A slippery slope indeed!
