Hurricane FurFright Part II: The Details

Con Business: I made a few hundred bucks more than I did at Anthrocon, with much more interest in my published work (portfolios, comics) than the near non-existence of that interest in Pittsburgh. Admittedly, I could account for that $200 in sales being in buttons and baked goods -- though I was selling buttons at Anthrocon -- but the sheer amount ( Read more... )

We're at same spot we were last time: power at the store, none at home. Hopefully it takes less than the 7 we were out for Irene or the 8 we were out for Albert.

Have some more trees down cause we TOTALLY needed more things to cut up. Nothing actually hit anything. the scary tweet about whole crown coming off the willow came out well. The wind direction made it come down on the neighbors lawn. Missed their swing set by about 6". It's huge but the only part that MIGHT be too big for saw is on our lawn, so we can probably cut it up. There is a terrifying one up back I'll post pictures of later.

Basement is flooded because the sump pump lost power, but we know that happens so everything is on pallets anyway. (it maxes out at 8" deep)

If you guys need to come over for showers, hot food, crash space, etc., you know you're always welcome here!

I know the power companies were prepped and ready, but I suspect they'll be focusing on the coastal areas that got hit the hardest first.

Town actually has shelter open for showers, so that's the big thing taken care of! I think we're good on food because most of the restaurants actually kept power (they're on same feed as fire station and town hall, so first to be restored).

so long as it doesn't get too cold, we're probably all good. though if it goes on for a couple days, may send parents over to see you. Dad's been on a "fix ALL THE THINGS" rampage which he can't really continue on with no power. so may be gung ho to fix stuff elsewhere. we'll see how long we're without power.

No matter how old you are, there are always people whose brains inexplicably never left high school social skills.
