Seeing is believing.

I had a Great Blue Heron in my yard. It is very bizarre since I don't live by the rivers or a lake or any other body of water that would attract a heron.

Heron and one iris )

birding, photography, photographs, wtf!

Wow. I'll be an atheist if that isn't a deific visitation.

I agree. It kind of freaked me out. It was my dad's favorite bird... that and the symbolism for phoenix that the blue heron has in Egyptian mythos... yeah.... visitation... of some kind.

It scared the hell out of me. This one was as tall, if not taller, than I am... but it was still very awesome.

Look at its height compared to the size of the roofing shingles. XD I'd love to get close to one....well aside from the spear like beak.

Awesome! It was probably en route to a wet location and thought it'd stop and say hi.

I used to love watching them in the creek behind the place I used to work. There was a pair of them. They crack me up flying with those big feet trailing behind, they look so unlikely. Wonderful animals.

Possible. It could also be a misplaced youngster. It is about fledging time for herons. (Or at least it would be in Ohio.. not sure about PA)

I love the calls the most. They sound like velociraptors or pteradactyls

They actually are a very secretive bird in most circumstances and people don't see them too much. It is what makes it very strange that it was in my yard.
