Phase #1

So I am seriously looking into graduate school. Of course I won't be able to apply until next year. I missed the deadline. The messed up thing there, the only place the deadline is listed is on the application. That is ok. I have a whole bunch of things to do first anyway. In front og me sits the Advanced Biology GRE practice test. The GRE is first ( Read more... )

What department do you work/volunteer in at the museum? You can always go to a curator and say, "hey I'm interested in doing a project in (x) department as a volunteer, I'm grad school bound, what can I do that would also benefit the section/collection?" I had thought about that. In fact I had contact the Mollusk department here at the Carnegie because they have a pretty interesting research study going on right now. That was just a couple weeks ago. I really do agree with you on all these points. Thanks for the extra stuff I didn't know. My other option I had in mind was applying for one of the programs over at the Aviary. I'd much rather stay at the museum though.

I've already been volunteering in the education department for several years so that may help me getting into other areas of the museum. Thank you so much for your input.

Tim Pearce is a good person to work with, his wife (Alice Doolittle) works at the WPC (http://www.paconserve.org/18), which is another organization to look into, they do lots of joint projects with the museum-- biotic inventory, environmental assessment work, lots of field work you could get involved with/internships/volunteer for.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for this. I'll have to look into all of this.
