Domino Effect post

Aug 30, 2019 11:21

First of all: remain calm. The only reason I'm posting Domino Effect posts on consecutive days is because I'm stuck at the laundromat and my mind got joggled about TV shows (thanks to sallymn). This consecutive-day thing doesn't accurately reflect the level of industry I'm likely to achieve in this posting endeavor ( Read more... )

The host is Rob Brydon, and yes, he's good. I've never watched the show - it's on after I go to bed, and although I've got some shows recorded, I never seem to have time to watch them.

Ooh, thank you, I do remember someone calling him Rob, now that you mention it.

I used to record things too and never watch them. :-) I've found that this show, at least, lends itself very well to watching short bits of it, not necessarily a whole episode at once, which is handy. If you do end up with time enough to give it a try at some point, I hope it tickles your funnybone as much as it does mine! (And sheesh, it makes me feel rich to have at my beck and call, as it were, something dry and witty and intelligent that will absolutely make me laugh whenever I need to laugh. Which is usually just after listening to the news...)

Lord, I need to stop watching the news! It seems to be nothing but politics (mostly Brexit - they've had three years to discuss it and nobody seems to have done a blind thing about it until now. I thought when the UK voted to leave Europe, that's what it would be - 'Bye, bye, Europe!', not trying to hammer out a deal (though the Irish border was always going to be sticky) with Europe trying to screw as much money out of the UK as they could get, three years later) or football. Just as well I'm on medication for high blood pressure!

You lot have Brexit and we have Trump. Wanna trade? :-) Seriously, it sounds like a mess all the way around; I hope it finally gets resolved in a decent way for everyone.

I'm so glad! WILTY is definitely TV that is good for the soul, uncomplicated laugh out loud fun, and David Mitchell - especially when he gets a good rant going - is priceless and Lee Mack - the other team captain - is unbelievably fast on his mental feet sometimes. The guests Sis and I really watch out for are Bob Mortimer (who I've mentioned and who is a treasure), Greg Davies, Rhod Gilbert, Claudia Winkelman... quite a few of them :)

Can I suggest something more? There's another British show, Mock The Week - maybe not the full episodes, as a lot of the different rounds are tied to British current affairs. But if you look up 'Scenes We'd Like To See' supercuts on youtube, most of them cross all borders and are hysterical.

PS - Sis did suggest I mention, some of the comics (Frankie Boyle especially) can push the envelope waaay over the edge. But I laugh anyway.

No worries; my envelope's edge is so far out in virtually every direction you'd need the Hubble to find the limit. :-) I don't think I get fazed by much except for malicious belittlement...

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I look forward to checking it out & adding to my stash of Happiness On Demand.

I have to admit, all I have to do is picture David Mitchell in my mind's eye and think about the tone of his voice, and I absolutely cannot keep myself from grinning. Which is quite handy... :-)

Hope you like it! I'm a hopeless Anglophile and love dry, off the wall humor so it's a perfect fit for me. YMMV. :-))

I've never actually watched it, but I recognise it as a show that the kids watch together and have a good laugh together. We have a TV sitting room and a no TV sitting room. I claim the quiet one, which is nice at times, but I miss out a bit on the occassional hilarity.

I don't actually have a TV and generally only listen to the radio when I'm driving -- I would pretty much always claim the quiet sitting room myself. :-) But every now and then I'm in the mood for some joyful noise, and WILTY and YouTube cooperate on demand, which pleases me no end.

I feel like we're so deprived in this country; we don't have anything like WILTY on TV. At least I think we don't (of course, how would *I* know, TV-less as I am... :-)).
