stabilizing necklines

I have a question about stable necklines in tshirts. I am about to alter a few shirts at the neck only. I think I am going to do this alteration, because I like the look of it. My question is this: since both fabrics are jersey, do I need to use something (like clear elastic) to stabilize the neckline? I don't want it to stretch out of shape

Thank you for that link! It won't work in this case, but I am glad to have it for later.

You can add an additional piece of binding on top of the seam to keep it from stretching. Most t-shirts already have a piece along the shoulders and back neckline for that purpose.

Also, there's no picture of the finished alteration, but it sounds like you can get a similar result by sewing the neckband as suggested above but cutting it in half along the top fold after sewing it.
