Pairing Songs

It's a time-honored fandom tradition to connect your favorite songs to your favorite pairings, whether the two fit together or not. I do it all the time; it's rare that I listen to a new song without trying to somehow fit it into my fandom shipper world. I always feel that these associations are best kept to oneself--pretty much any song can be ( Read more... )

VERY interesting! I always love how people listen to songs and then in a certain way, make them their own, and use them to express emotions or feelings or thoughts, and also, of course, link them to their favourite ships. Music is so powerful and can speak to people in ways no other artform can (at least in my opinion).

Surprisingly, though, I have no specific House/Wilson-songs, which is weird given the amount of time I spend thinking about House and Wilson. I do have some songs I've used to write H/W fanfic but then usually the story was there first and I groped around in my brain to find a song to go with it.

Hm, well, music's very basic, I think. It sneaks into your brainstem and talks to your lower, instinctive brain functions. Which is why it's very easy to connect to music; you don't need to put any frontal-lobe thought into it. As you have to with a lot of other art forms.

Yeah, I do that, too, sometimes, go and look for songs to fit a specific pairing or character. But I always feel that the songs I find that way don't really fit all that well with whatever I am trying to pair them with. Not as well as they do when I hear the song and the connection just pops into my head.
