Things to do when the BBC steals your talents.

Feb 13, 2010 15:37

So I was supposed to be filming today, but then the BBC extended a shoot and one of my actors pulled out at the last moment. FUN. At least this means a free Saturday. I'll hopefully be filming tomorrow instead--not with the BBC actor, though. We'll have to make do with a different one. If she gets back to us and lets us know whether she has time ( Read more... )

Doing stuff yourself is usually the best way to get results, anyway.

Hmm, yeah. But modding a RP comm is a lot of work, and doing it all by myself would require a whole lot of attention. I might still go for it, but idk. It all depends on you, if you're the only one in charge.

Yeah, I see what you mean. This is why I never started a Refugee Community for people who got scared away by the insanity of the House Fandom, because it would require loads of attention 24/7 to keep the insanity of creeping in.

Setting up your own comm, huh? What would the premise be?

Well, a while ago, mind_the_tardis and myself came up with a basic concept here. The premise would have to be altered if mind_the_tardis doesn't want to participate or co-mod, but I would like to keep the concept. It's a bit different to usual RP comms, since I always find the way comms are normally run to be strangely unsatisfactory, as far as the writing experience is concerned. Reading through it, though, it's probably also absolutely impossible to mod by yourself. :|

Yeah, that looks pretty plot intensive. It looks like you'd have a lot of legwork to do if you were the only mod. I can see where you're going with the set-up though, with the kind of writing you want to do. More like collaborative fic than comment spam, right?

Basically, yeah. I just get very frustrated with the constant small talk that happens in a lot of comms most of the time. It's like, if I want that, I can go to dear_mun or some other dressing room. I'd want a comm to actually give me some story lines to work with. What's the point otherwise?

Which characters do you play?

Hee, yeah, I'm doing a TV course. I have to film a drama piece in the course of an assignment. Getting everyone to cooperate and to have time when the actors have time to film is always a nightmare. /o\

AIM won't let me log in and see my buddy list D: I don't think it would be the change in 'net speed; that makes no sense.

And, yes, I am a spazz where it comes to comms. I just can't think of a concept that would really be manageable. It's either small talk or its big plots that would take a lot of time and thought and participation to manage. I always kind of want comm participation, and then I get involved in one and go "meh."

I still have to write Haiti. Sigh. March would be nice.

Well, I think for me, that will be different when I'm modding. With AA, the problem was mostly the mods not giving the users enough information to build a consistent world to develop their characters. At least when I'm in charge, if it goes wrong I know I'm the one to blame. I always bitch about the mods when I'm in a RP comm; I figure I should try doing it myself at least once. Because I think it can be done right.

I have faith that it can be done right, I think, for a limited amount of time with the right group of people. Finding those people would be one of the major challenges.

And I would, of course, follow you into mucking about in said comm and be more than happy to do some co-modly stuff, like work with apps and what-not. I'm such a damned naysayer.

Oh, and I wouldn't bring Ash ;) He and Johnny can gossip about ex-Time Lords and how easy it is to fuck with their heads elsewhere.
