Title: Chance Meeting
Rating: G
Prompt: Ianto and Ten with a prompt of first meeting. I'd rather they met away from TW 1 or the hub other than that it's up to you. by
talcat The Doctor landed the TARDIS. He didn’t know exactly where. It didn’t matter. He’d said goodbye to Rose but he managed to leave off all the important things. She’d saved him, put him back together after the time war shattered him, and he couldn't even say it. Couldn’t say it now. Not even to himself.
He was pulled out of his misery by a knocking at the TARDIS door. At first he ignored it but it continued, polite but insistent. Finally he opened the door.
On the other side was a small boy of five or six. He was carrying a large plastic car.
“Who are you?” asked The Doctor.
“I’m Ianto,” said the boy holding out his hand for the Doctor to shake. The Doctor leant down and took the small hand in his own. “Why is your box in my garden?”
“Um… sorry,” said the Doctor. “It’s a space ship, I landed here accidentally.”
Ianto gave this some thought. “It’s not a very good space ship it is? Gareth Evans has a big red space ship. His isn’t a real one though. So I suppose yours is better really. Red’s my favourite colour. Are you an alien? Do you want to come it for tea?”
The Doctor fumbled a little, he wasn’t used to people who talked more than he did. “Um… yes the TARDIS is good. I like red too. Yes I’m an alien… And what was the other thing?”
“Do you want to come in for tea?” asked Ianto again patiently. “We’ve got stew.”
“What kind of stew?” asked the Doctor bewildered and intrigued.
“Just stew.”
“I don’t think your mum would be very pleased if you brought strange men home,” said the Doctor.
“You’re an alien though,” frowned Ianto.
“I… don’t think that would make it any better,” said the Doctor slowly.
“Aunt Bethan brings strange men home all the time,” argued Ianto. The Doctor fought against a smirk. “But they're probably not aliens.” Ianto thought for a moment. “Wait here.” He started to run up to the house, then turned and ran back. He gave the Doctor his toy car. “Hold that for me please,” he said before running back towards the house.
The Doctor had a look but the TARDIS was shielded from view by a large rhododendron bush. He should probably leave but he could quite bring himself to just yet. He looked down at the plastic car in his hand. It was red, and had ‘IJ’ written in permanent marker on the underneath.
Ianto came back carrying a plate of sandwiches. He put on the floor by the TARDIS and ran off again. The second time he came back with a jug of squash and two plastic beakers.
“I told mum I wanted sandwiches instead, and that my friend needed some too. Aunt Bethan asked me if you were imaginary.” Ianto rolled his eyes, indicating that in his opinion ‘Aunt Bethan’ was a moron.
The doctor looked at the TARDIS and then at the sandwiches. It wasn’t like he had anywhere else to be.
“Mum says if we eat all this we can have cake.”
Oh well, cake.

When the Doctor finally did leave Ianto made him promise to visit again. The Doctor warned him that it might be a long time, but Ianto just smiled and said that would be okay. ‘Sometimes it takes daddy a long time to visit too’.
The Doctor decided that Ianto Jones was worth keeping an eye on.
