This is decidedly one of my new go-to comfort fics. I love the folktale feel of it and the melancholy of John growing up.

I knew I liked being under my bed as a kid for a reason. :D of course it WAS the best place to disappear as well- no one ever found me there...

Well.... There were those fuzzy round monsters (especially colorful and very horny) in college, but none that I can recall as a child.... I suppose it is possible they faded into dust bunnies... But unlikely.
