hahaha braces and retainers. Maaan those were the days. Your lips will get used to them eventually (the cutting does stop, I promise.)

Have you had them before? I still have my permanent retainer...

Yupyup, I sure did. For three years. Someday I might document my entire orthodontic experience...it was very painful, and involved a few surgeries and a tooth in the roof of my mouth, some snapped brackets, looooots of early mornings (my parents weren't even nice enough to pull me out of school for the appointments XD) and a metal bar glued behind four of my bottom front teeth ~ which is still there today, 7 years later ( ... )

aaaah... ow, man... that sounds awful! :P

The permanent retainer is glued in--the metal bar on the inside of the bottom four front teeth that you mentioned. It's been there since I was 13, and it sounds like it's going to stay there until maybe after I get my wisdom teeths out, but who knows, really? My dentist is so easy going, and since it's keeping all of them in place, he's pretty cool with all of it.

AND THAT WAS A RUN-ON SENTENCE! YAAAAAAAAAAAY.

WOO! Another person with a bar behind their teeth! You're, like, the first one I've ever met. Ever. We should start a club. And open a bar called "The Retainer." It'd be cool.

Run-on sentences are even cooler, though.

In a sense, it was quick, as I'd intended to start at the end of this month.

But I've been planning to get it done since February, so it's not so sudden in that kind of time frame.

I am sure it will go well - I hope you do not have too much discomfort.

My sister had braces, those were the days were you could get funky coloured elastics for them!
