Dammit, I hate when my posts get eaten. Despite the greatest precautions, saves, plugins, and copy-pastes...I still manage to lose one from time to time.

Well, have you considered using an LJ client like Semagic or other 'posting' software on your computer? I've never had any problems with losing a post that way.

Here's the list: http://www.livejournal.com/download/?platform=Windows

I've also used LochJournal, although I'm using Semagic now. Prefer Semagic. I also think Firefox has a LJ posting plug in, too. http://deepestsender.mozdev.org/ It's not TOO bad either.

Good luck! I KNOW how frustrating it is to lose something . . . and I've only lost my damn comments.

Yeah, I used Deepest Sender (the Firefox extension) before even installing Semagic, but haven't updated it in ages. I use Semagic on the home computer, but sometimes it crashes and I don't bother opening it up again right away, and/or I just don't feel like opening a separate client when I'm in the middle of typing up a post. Especially when I've made all kinds of precautions not to have to lose posts, as I have. The resulting post about my sweetie was written using Semagic after all though.
