"The school received the money from her grandparent’s estate. Our daughter will never have to work a single day of her life if she doesn’t desire."

Wait, what? Where in the hell did THIS come from!? I mean, what? Huh? *smacks forehead* What!?

I mean, honestly! The girl's adopted by two of the most famous mages of their time, at least one of them is established as quite wealthy on his own...

What in the hell necessitated an out-of-left-field "wealth grandparents' estate" Deus Ex Machina!?

Because the author forgot what is continuity? Maybe he got distracted by naked ten-year-olds?

And I didn't even realise you'd updated - I guess that's what I deserve for not checking this. And for not putting it on my friends page out on sheer laziness... I'll do that soon, I guess.

I've never understood the obsession that turns up in so many fics with making characters absurdly rich. I remember an awful lot of fics where its revealed that Harry is richer than Croesus for no real reason, solely because being merely comfortably wealthy is insufficient for some reason. The number of fics I noticed where not only is this so, but Dumbledore has been secretly embezzling the moolah to bankroll the Order of the Phoenix borders on making it a subgenre of its own.

I suppose its part of the simplifying element of so much writing - rather than being well-off or hardscrabble, you're either the World's Richest Man or the Fifth Yorkshireman.

Or for his own gain in evil!Dumbledore fics, because Dumbledore is totally the kind of person who's motivated by money.

Seventeen.
^ And now that song is stuck in my head.

There are entire squads of child-throwers dedicated to the task.
^ Well, under Wrong's Ministry, I wouldn't be surprised.

That's not how O.W.L.s work.
^ But maybe it's how Q.W.L.s work.

but Jamie did have a great body
^ sure, for someone who's FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. No man in his twenties should be noticing a teenage girl that way.

Wait till you meet the Puppy-Punting Patrol. That's not their official name, but might as well be their job description.

uhhh... I've read das_mervin's group sporkings for the entire HE series, but I can't remember what that's in reference to. Are we talking about Balla Buster yet?

Sergeant Anders and his cardboard Auror squad, who I dubbed the Puppy-Punting Patrol because they're just pointlessly evil. I get that Anders is supposed to have a grudge against werewolves because his mate Smithy (and that's never not going to remind me of James Corden's character from Gavin and Stacey) was killed by one, but his characterisation is still too cartoonish to take seriously. Don't worry: he vanishes into a plot hole not long afterwards.
