True. Still, even before Deathly Hallows showed us just how much Lucius cares for Draco, I'd never seen an abusive!Lucius that made any sense at all. It didn't in the Draco Trilogy, so what chance did its imitators, imitators of imitators, imitators³ and so forth have?

I'm in the process of re-reading Deathly Hallows, but I did get the impression that both Draco's parents care very deeply for him from earlier books and from the films. I can't imagine his father actually being abusive towards him-- well, mildly, in an "it's for your own good" capital punishment type of way, but not to the extent that it's implied in fanfiction. I've written "Draco Trilogy on a post-it note and intend to look it and all other fics mentioned in your sporkings up to gain a better understanding of HE for when I do my own spork.
