The pictures from the set of Series 5 of Doctor Who are generating all kinds of wank on certain comms (which shall remain nameless). Some people are upset about all the change that's happening, and declaring that THEY WILL NEVER WATCH AGAIN ZOMG. Because of some superficial changes.

I am seriously confused. People seem willing to make up their minds ( Read more... )

Yeah. What I fell in love with was the idea of the Doctor, wandering around in a police box getting into trouble and helping people out. I loved the randomness of it all. (When I was very young, the robot dog also appealed to me.) I saw enough of different Doctors on PBS not to get too strongly invested in a single one, and though there was some stuff I didn't like, the show was vast enough that I knew there'd always be something else I would.

I fell hard for the new show (after being sure I wouldn't like Nine, based on pre-show publicity and stills!), and then was devastated to find that Eccleston left after only one season. I was sure I wouldn't like Tennant, and even put off watching his episodes. Three years later, Ten's my Doctor, and I can't imagine liking any future era better. Okay, I'll be amazed if they really pull off yet another coup, but even if Eleven doesn't supplant Ten in my heart, I have no doubt that it's going to be a great show. I hate change. I worry about the changes to the TARDIS, the theme tune, ( ... )

Who doesn't love a robot dog?

I seriously don't understand the bitterness toward Moffat-- personally, I think his episodes are among the best, and it's easy to tell there's a love of the show there. As for the idea that he hated Doctor/Rose... wasn't he the one who started that whole "dancing" business? And the "You two are so cute" stuff?

He was just softening us up for the blow with Reinette! (Or something like that.)

Seriously, I don't get the "I can never watch again" contingent either. This show has always incorporated change, and not just regeneration: new gadgets, new companions, new backstory. If you can't deal with that, then why the hell are you watching in the first place? The pretty guy in the suit? (Who definitely is very, very pretty to look at ... but he isn't the show, and he'd be the first to admit that.)

If people want to stop watching, they're welcome to. I'll keep watching the same show I've been watching for the past 25+ years.

Oh, they're totally watching because of the pretty boy in the suit. To them, it's The Ten Show (Starring ROSE!), and despite the claim that "I'm sure the new Doctor will be great, that is not my complaint/issue", I'm not buying it. I think the fact that DT is leaving is exactly the complaint/issue ( ... )
