Over the summer, I was planning our store's Harry Potter party. I did most of the work from home, and went into the store very occasionally. I usually rode my bike in if I had to go to the store at all

fucking hell. talk about a sucky day. but honestly? first time i ever hear about a bus driver doing something like that, ever. i did my share of mistakes in the bus when i was younger (and i still do once in a while) but i'"ve never had a driver confiscate my id card/bus pass (it's the same card for both when you're a student). same thing for my friends. some of them are well-known for their lack of general knowledge on the day's actual date and whenever they tried to hop into a bus with an expired pass, they're merely kicked out of the bus (which is fair up to a certain point). But to get a 166$ bill for that? first time i hear about something like that. do they mention why they actually charge you that much money? i mean, if you'd bothered to go get your id back, you wouldn't have had to pay a single penny, right? so stupid. *kicks the RTC in the arse twice*
and sorry if there are any mistakes, i haven't proof-read myself. my eyes hurt and i'm about to go to bed. but really, i hope things will settle quickly and properly.
I imagine that if I had tried to get my ID back, I would have received a further lecture about buying my pass on time, and had to pay the fine anyway, only sooner.
I had honestly forgotten about it. After all, it's been nine months.
I've never heard about this sort of thing, either. My guess is that I had a new driver who wanted to prove he had read the rule book.
When he was done taking my name and humiliating me in front of a busload of people, I should have gotten his name. But I was just so gobsmacked-- I mean, how often has this ever happened? I have lived in four different cities, and taken the bus my whole life, and this is the first time a bus driver has ever done anything like this. Like I said before, most drivers would have just kicked me off with a stern warning to get an up-to-date pass.
Oh, I wish. I thought the whole thing was excessive at the time. I mean, shouldn't having my pass confiscated and being humiliated in front of a whole bussload of people be enough? He couldn't have let me off with some sort of warning?
And since when did having an expired bus pass warrant a bigger fine than speeding or blowing a stop sign?
That's insane. I've seen drivers turn people away, but more often they let the person on 'just this once.' The only cite-able offense I'm aware of is being on the trolley and being unable to produce a pass if the ticket inspectors come through. Since you're already on board, they need some way to enforce things. But a bus? An expired pass less than a week into the new month? Good lord.
