2007 reading challenge

Jan 08, 2007 08:50

I caught this from wildycrafty. In 2007, pick 12 To-Be-Reads from your book pile, and make a commitment to read at least one of them each month in 2007. The books must have been in your possession 6 months or more. In my case, I sorted my bookcrossing shelf by earliest registered, and pulled the first 12 books. The alternates are the next 12 in line. I read this and thought "Great! That sounds like a good plan." And then i went to sort my BC shelf like you did and realized that out of all the books listed on the first page I've got maybe two unpacked. Yeah. This would be the reason that I'm offloading books onto people!

But I have a real TBR shelf so I'm going to pull twelve of those and read them. Though honestly my entire year I'm planning on slowly working through those books. I'm planning (hopefully) on being very good and not going to the library or buying many books at the bookstore until I have significantly decreased the number of books in this apartment.

Good luck to you!

Good luck to you, too :) Are you going to post your 12-book pull list in your lj? I'm curious what'll make the cut.
I think most of us long-time bookcrossers are starting to feel the pinch - either of books longing for journal entries, or just the sheer volume of books pressing down. I'm also trying to be good about reducing my incomings, and skipping the library. No guarantees there, but I think I have slowed my intake a bit lately. I'm trying to just stick to items on my wishlist at paperbackswap.com. Most of those are so rare or unpopular, that it'll be months to years before any become available. Unfortunately (?), the biggest Friends of the Library booksale is in February, so I'm going to be hard-pressed to avoid a shopping spree. Hardback library discards (general fiction only) - 5/$1! All other genres $.50 for paperbacks and $1-$4 hardback. eeeeek. I'm starting to treat the library sales like a casino - I only take cash, and only a small, set amount at that ;)

Sure, I'll post my pull list. I've already started the one for January, unbeknownst to me. I started "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" while I was at work on Thursday night. I'm not sure it's going to get read in full but I'm going to at least try it. I've heard so many things about it.

I know that "Blood Brothers" is going to make the cut too. That will probably be February unless AHWoSG doesn't come up to scratch. Though frankly all my reads for a good bit are going to come off that bookshelf me thinks. The only exceptions are Favorite Author status books. I've got a couple Jodi Picoult that are going to get read soon--well, sort of soon. I can only read about one of her books every couple of months. They're intense!

Woo! Share your pull-list in your lj - enquiring minds want to know :)
(btw - do you still have my copy of Delicate Creatures?)

Yes! I will post it to LJ. And I do still have Delicate Creatures. It will be appearing on my list, in fact. (And let me know where you want me to send it next! It's still in the silver packing envelope, which is probably why I forgot about it for so long)!

:)

Good luck with the TBR challenge! Since we're both LJ'ers, I thought I would friend you. Do ya mind? I just finished my first book, Things Fall Apart, which I reviewed on my LJ.

Alisia over at TBR challenge.

I'm always up for meeting new people - especically if they're readers - and you sound like an extremely interesting person! (So, yeah, don't mind at all :) )
