Tell Me the Mystery of the Universe
Chimerical
by Syrinx
Rating: PG
Kismet: Fate, destiny.
Summary: The virus never found Edgardale, but Ashleigh's fate was always with Townsend Acres.
A/N: I'm cherry picking from canon with this one (which somehow achieved epic short story status...how did that happen?!).  I don't believe Edgardale is in Lexington, as ( Read more... )

Holy God this is the best thing I have ever read. Okay, not the best best because I adore everything else you've written, but... this is just SOSOSOSOGOOD! You've given them entirely different lives, but they are the same too and I love that. I especially love the fact that they don't immediately jump to it, but their relationship slowly slowly develops. It feels right and not rushed in the least. Great job here. I think I would marry this fic if I could... really.

On the other hand, please please please tell me you've read Ashleigh's Diary. I don't know if you included that when you said you've never really read an Edgardale centric book, but it's actually one of the best Thoroughbred books of all! I still get weepy whenever I think of Black Night!

When I was writing this I kept thinking that I'd gone totally insane and the word count kept rising and I kept thinking YOU ARE INSANE OMG WHY. For a while there I thought they were going to be content with this platonic, maybe/maybe not relationship before I thought, "What the hell, you are the writer of this, make it happen!"

It just took me 9,000+ words and three fictional years to get them there. ;)

I actually have not read Ashleigh's Diary yet. Or Ashleigh's Hope, but I've heard that one is pretty typical Bentley. I'll get to them both for the WBF Blog soonish or laterish!

If you hadn't gotten them together, I probably would have still loved it... with a couple of screams of frustration thrown in the mix! Haha. I'm glad you got there (and that you took so long doing it! Long fics = good fics!)

And read Ashleigh's Diary SOONISH. I can't believe you haven't read it yet! I'm not going to lie and say I had hoped for a little Black Night mention in this, but it makes sense that you wouldn't because you've never read it. I think it's one of the only Thoroughbred books that I read continually year after year. You can definitely (definitely definitely) do without Ashleigh's Hope.

Why, thank you! You have definitely raised the bar for me. Now I'll just sit around and ponder ways to one-up this story!

Your AUs are amazing. I'm not sure which one I like better, "Altered" or this. I love the slow sweet build, the pining (oh god am I sucker for a good unrequited love), the teasing, the respect for one another, the everything!!!! I suppose what I love the most is you took a very immature literary character and had her become an adult! (Something no pro writer has done ( ... )
