Removing the playlist information will make it more difficult to plan to record specific pieces. But back in the days that I recorded a lot of music off the radio, I didn't have access to playlists. (There was no internet, the info wasn't in my local newspaper, and I wasn't a member of the stations so I didn't get the magazines.) I always kept a blank tape queued up, and when I heard an interesting piece announced, I hit the record button. (Having the playlists with timings would have made it easier to fill in the blank ends of partial tapes.) I think the people who tape off the air are largely the people who aren't going to buy the recordings anyway. (Or some might buy the recordings after they fall in love with their tapes, and want better quality. Nah, my tapes were pretty good.*) This new practice will not increase sales measurably.
