You can put the URLs in the "comments" section of your icons, on the page where you go to edit/upload them. Anyone who clicks on your "show all userpics" page (or you could even link in your profile if you wanted to draw attention to it) will then see the source and credit. I put simple credits in the keywords as well (helps me remember, too, to see something like "han solo by iconofilth" as the keyword)

But that's a step removed. I'd like to be able to just click on the icon I'm looking at. It's intuitive, and it doesn't change the current appearance of anybody's setup. (Except some browsers will draw a box around the icon when it becomes a link.)

And we cheapskates who have only 3 icons may be swapping icons in/out, so the icon may no longer be on our all-userpics page. (Actually, I've been meaning to experiment and see what happens to previous journal entries' icons when you change your icon set -- do they keep their icon, or do they pick up the current default?)

Yeah, I know - that's not an automatic gesture, but at least it would still offer some kind of link opportunities. The only other thing I can think of would be to post the icons and link them to their sources on your userinfo page, which supports that kind of html. Even if you rotated your official icons around, that bunch would remain static.

Also, when you pull an icon, it reverts to the new default.

I think I'd rather put a link on my userinfo page to the icon collection on my own website. I still have to store the image files someplace, and the userinfo page is not the nicest editing environment.

Hmm, putting all those images on my userinfo page is also NOT FUN for the dial-up folks. (Can I my userinfo page??)

Thanks for that info. That means that swapping my icons frequently would not be a good way to get more variety. (And I don't have a default icon defined at all, because that allows me to post entries and comments without an icon.)
