Our wireless router (
Netgear FM114P) appears to have died sometime today. Both our iBooks report that there is no WiFi signal. The router also has 4 wired ports, one of which is connected to a Sun workstation. I'm using the 2nd port now to this iBook. 4 ports are certainly enough for 2 people, but wires are a great restriction on where we use our computers. (And I actually do use mine out on the deck sometimes.) I guess I'll run a cable into the dining room for
anniemal.
I've tried power-cycling the router, wandering through the config screens, reconnecting the cables and the antenna. I'm looking through their
support page now, but I don't think I'll find anything useful there. The wired side of things still seems to be working perfectly well. This is an old router, 802.11b (so of course it's out of production), and all the laptops here are 802.11g. (I don't think our ISP is fast enough for us to see the difference with a newer router with faster WiFi. If we switched from cable to fiber, then it would matter.)
I suppose it may be time for a trip to MicroCenter or CompUSA, because this is probably just plain WiFi-dead. Newer and faster is $40 (although not with a print server), and this old one probably isn't fixable.
