I always thought she looked dire - but re "It'd be glorious to see a really thoughtful, detailed adaptation of a book or series that was great in the first place", isn't there a miniseries of Wolf Hall in pre-production?

Historical fiction recommendations if you don't already know them - The Long Ships by Frans Bengtsson and Memoirs of the Emperor Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar. Now they really inhabit their times (the latter by means of basically method writing tons of Hadrian rambling, then editing it down to a sort-of novel).
