The only books I ever read from Lackey was the Magic's Promise trilogy thing.

...okay, I WILL give Lackey props for introducing a huge number of people to gay fiction. Myself included. I loved that series a lot, back in the day.

It was my first gay novel experience!

I've heard people call her the master of American Yaoi, and that's pretty much true I think XD

I LOVE BOTH and I agree. I like that Lackey is a popcorn fiction writer though. I can tear through an entire series in like. An afternoon or less.

McKinley is far more complex and the better writer and I take time when I read her. She isn't a quick fix but akjsbdkabda DEAR DEAR LOVE LOVE.

Oh yes. I think some of my issues with Lackey can definitely be traced back to the fact that I used to pop her books back like candy. FANGIRL BELLYACHE?

Sadly I don't think Sunshine has enough B&B in it to temp you.

Did I ever send you The Fire Rose though? I know I meant to...

Hey I'll read anything recommended, even if it has nothing to do with B&B XD

You did not, noooo.

...well now I wonder who I DID send it to.

But I should.

When I was younger, I reread the library's copy of The Blue Sword so many times I could basically recite the whole thing. I love McKinley ;o;

All her older books were on my frequently reread list ♥ She's definitely changed up her narrative style of late, but she's still excellent.

Lackey has pretty much moved on to the NOSTALGIA FACTOR ALL THE WAY author of my heart. (Although, don't ask me how beat up my copy of the Fire Rose is. I should probably get a new one...)

Also, McKinley is excellent. And I don't know if you've read Patricia McKiliup, but she strikes me as another author you'd like.

(HAHA. I feel like that is one of the books where I actually do have multiple copies kicking around. That, Sabriel, and Pride and Prejudice. gg me.)

And the name is very familiar but I actually don't think I have...

(It's one of those books where I think that may be totally justified.)

She's done a lot of very traditional fantasy stuff. The Riddle-masters is I think her most distinguished work?

...also I have to admit, Sunshine did kind of read like the B&B story, but with a really nice Gaston analogue and a different ending. I really want her to write another book in the same universe, I don't really care if she writes it about that cast, I just loved the setting a lot.

I will look into her--should really learn to put holds on books anyway.

Yeah, thinking back I can definitely see where Sunshine hits the B&B plot markers, it just wasn't the focal point of the story for me while I was reading it. Which was ind of nice! And agreed, that setup was most excellent and I'd love to know more.
