settle an argument

(These little settle-an-argument polls are not necessarily for Dreamwidth, by the way -- just, well, to settle an argument. *g* In this case, though, we're deciding between "rip out Snapshot functionality entirely" and "change Snapshots to being a logged-in-user viewing preference only and never let someone force you to see them if you don't want ( Read more... )

They were a mere nuisance/novelty until little google-like text ads popped up at the bottom of each 'snapshot'. Now I'm against them entirely.

I hate them. They startle me and then I get scared and confused and forget how to work my mouse so I can't make them go away.

I would give a lot of money to be kidding.

I especially hated that they were opt-out, instead of opt-in, and so difficult for the average user to disable (you disabled them on your own journal/lj account, and then ALSO through snapshots.com, and God forbid either of these steps were confusing for the user/conflicting with the firewall/etc.).

Giant PITA.

If I'm at work, the snapshots give me a clue *before* I trigger the blocking "YOU BAD EMPLOYEE YOU" software. So I appreciate them! But if I didn't have that issue, they'd annoy the heck out of me.

Occasionally useful, frequently annoying, inconsistently functional (at least for me, there's a high frequency of the pop-up going to what must be like a frame or some damn thing, so it doesn't actually display the content I'm about to visit).

Since a hell of a lot of people to either have enabled the damn things on purpose, or have no idea how to disable them, I think I'd go with logged in user option no one HAS to see.
