Okay, okay, so I don't know about you, but I've figured out my version of how it all plays out in the future. After JD kicks ass and wins, and no one from SG-1 dies, and Jack does damage control for the program going public, Daniel comes back to Earth. Or, no, wait, Jack retires to Atlantis. And what you said about Daniel being straight in chapter, well, it was all Jack's misconception, and he and Daniel finally ge together, and JD hears about it, and finally, finally, they both get some peace, letting go of jealousy and knowing that their counterpart isn't suffering anymore. Having both worlds, in a way. THAT'S MY STORY AND I'M STICKING TO IT and god, I hope that somehow yours ends that way.
From now on, this is what I'll be envisioning when you punch me in the gut with lines like "tell Daniel I'll miss him". It's the only way I can deal.
Thank you! I will promise that everyone gets a happy ending, although not quite the one that you're envisioning. (Daniel really is straight! Completely! But I won't be mean to Jack forever, I swear.)
(Momma! And Teal'c! You know there was some Olympic-level staring going on there. *g*)
Oh, man. This is just so raw...so real...it hurts to read, which I'm sure is the point *g*, and yet I can't seem to stop reading. For a story that started out as a snippet with no plot, it's going great guns! Thank you for continuing to share it :)
And thank you. I wasn't intending for it to grow such fangs, but man, it's so much fun to throw lots of complicated messy stuff at them and step back and watch them deal with it, and they're dealing so beautifully, and it's just so much fun to write Real People Reactions and make there be no artificial happy endings, you know? I love reading it, and I love writing it, and these two are just so good at doing it. Because life is complicated, and they're trying their best, and their best is going to have to be good enough ...
And that's *exactly* why I love this story so much. Because these are real people, and the OC characters - the Mitchell clan - are so believable as well-rounded, flawed characters, that even though you're not using them as narrators we get such wonderful glimpses into their characters and thoughts and feelings through Cam's eyes.
That's such an incredibly rare thing to find in any fanfic. Hell, it's rare in published fiction as well, but it adds so much to the story.
Actually, while I think about it, I'd be curious to know how you manage to flesh them out so well - what tricks you use (if any), because it's something you do so well in all your fiction - if you're ever feeling the need to write 'writing meta' again? *flutters eyelashes*

Possibly something more coherent later.

I will so be holding you to that. Also, in the meantime, I'll be staying in my fantasy comfort zone.
(ALSO, not that Jack's entered the story, I can't help but wonder just how many Mitchells he's met in the course of his military career...)
