Thank you! Yeah, none of this is easy, for either of them -- there's shit buried deep in both of them that's going to take years to plumb. But they're trying, and they both see the glimmer of reward at the end of all that hard work, and they're both grownup enough to know that yeah, it's going to be worth it. If they can just make it there.
I love them so much. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CRACK, DAMMIT.

You know, in a weird and splendid way, this is JD reacting as if he's been accused of cradle-robbing.
But JD's sitting crosslegged on the bed, his back up against the headboard, his hands arranged perfectly in his lap, breathing deeply and evenly with his eyes closed.
Man, he's gotta have missed Teal'c especially at particular points in his two-year journey. Because Teal'c is nothing if not good sitting with emotions, even when they need to be held in awareness and then put aside for the moment.
Man, yes. He won't let himself miss Daniel, because that way lies madness, but Teal'c? Sometimes you just need someone to sit and be quiet with you, and JD didn't realize the benefits of all the things Teal'c was trying to teach him until well after he'd become JD. More than a few times he'd stop and think "if only T could see me now ..."
And yeah, it really is JD reacting as though he's been accused of being the cradle-robber, isn't it? Or been accused of some other form of nefarious purposes. Because he's thinking that Cam's parents might not think he's gold-digging, but gosh, it sure could look like Cam's his sugar daddy to an outsider, and that pisses him off to hell and gone. And he will not stand for that. Because he wouldn't be putting himself through all this hell if it weren't for a damn good reason, like the kind of love that doesn't get anything but stronger as the years go on.
And yeah, it really is JD reacting as though he's been accused of being the cradle-robber, isn't it? Or been accused of some other form of nefarious purposes.
And of course in his head, he's the (much) older one. As vulnerable and newborn as he feels sometimes.
Ohh, how I love this. Seriously, an new part of this is like candy when you least expect it. And is it crazy that I feel for Cameron's father, because really--when you think about how it looks from the outside...damn.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it. *g* And oh, God, yes; from the outside, this looks bad and worse than bad, and Cam knows it, and he knows that he can't say the words that would make his family stop looking at him like he's doing something wrong, something shameful. And that hurts: hurts him, hurts JD, and it hurts worse the more they keep coming back to it, but they're both smart enough to know that cutting themselves off would only make things worse. Even if it was something Cam was willing to do, which he's not, and JD doesn't want him to be.
It's an ugly mess all around, and it's just another thing they're going to have to overcome. And yeah, Cam's daddy is just trying to guard his baby boy. Because he doesn't think JD's flighty or irresponsible -- he's talked to the boy, and he knows damn well there's a hell of a lot more maturity there than there would be in some others his "age". But, well. His accident nearly broke up his marriage, and they'd been married for fifteen blissful years with two kids between them and were still
( ... )
I love this not a WIP so much. I just wish there were an easy way for Cam's family to realize that JD is there for the long haul and is not some 17-year-old who will get bored and move on.
Cam wishes so too, man. I mean, on the one hand, sure, it's the kind of problem that fixes itself with time; as the years go on and the family realizes that JD's not going anywhere, well, they'll start to settle down about it a bit. But for now, it's all raw and stirred up, and it doesn't help that it's also coinciding with a lot of the arguments Cam and JD are having, and, well, it's going to be a tense year ...
I'm so glad that you're enjoying it. I love them so tremendously, and this started out as a one-shot -- dammit, this is what happens when I start out with a cracked-out premise and take it seriously and rationally, and then discover that it was less cracked-out than I thought it was. Heh.

Especially liked how you addressed JD's speech, and how hard it was to give it and how hard it was to hear it, and how its harder to live with it.
