I am not doing so well on the 50 Book Challenge this week. I've been working 8 hour days and my nights this week have mostly been cooking and house cleaning. I keep stealing moments to read a little bit of Huckleberry Finn (my current book) but it's taken me a whole week just to get 2/3 of the way through, so I'm not holding out much hope for my ( Read more... )

Don't give up on the 50 books. You know that a day or two will come when you just blow through pages like a tornado through a trailer park. Then it'll all balance out.

May I suggest taking a bath in that lovely tub of yours? Light some candles, dunk yourself in and read. It's a great way to get through Huck Finn, srsly. I've read that book five times, and four of them were in the bathtub, and I hate baths, but I loved those. Maybe it's the river theme.

The Abyss: was one of the movies that psycho-Joe made me watch over and over and over again. It's one of the foundations of my love for horror and psychological thrillers.
I think Joe just liked it because he was obsessed with snuff and asphyxiation. It really is a fabulous movie, though. So much so that I still enjoy it. The pleasure of watching it isn't affected by even a hint of PTSD. Claustrophobic anxiety, yes, but that's part of the charm!
