Gross, but help!

As much as I love fall/winter, there is one part of it that I hate.

TMI, but it happens to everyone. )

Oooo, I can do advice! parizadhe November 18 2005, 03:05:20 UTC
Right. I never ever noticed this. Isn't that funny? I guess all those red curls (or black or whatever color they happened to be at the time) hid them. Because it's not like I don't LOOK at you. I do, you know ( ... )

the only issue with the hand creme [and trust me, i've tried it and it has its perks] is that it makes your hair *disgusting*. if you wet it before you go to bed, sleep with the lotion on and then wash it in the morning, you should be okay, but it's still a risk that it'll make your hair really oily. the point about dry hair vs dry scalp is a really good one though - it's why the infusium is good, and the origins, b/c it deals with scalp not just hair.

but dude, #4 with the cracked/bleeding hands, god i HATE that. starting like now, i have to sleep with lotion & gloves on, or they chap out like it's their job. blech.

1) As a last resort, I will go. I promise.

2) I do take rather hot showers, though I try to brace and rinse my hair with cold water at the end of my shower.

3) I've tried the hair-safe version of cream for my scalp. I wince at putting cold cream in my hair, though it might do my hair AND scalp some good.

4) I know I don't drink enough water, but as my skin never flakes or cracks I don't understand why my scalp would. Maybe it's just more sensitive.

5) I haven't, but I will try it!

6) I haven't coloured or blow dried my hair in ages. It's actually kind of healthy again. ^^

Thanks for the advice, hon!

oh, my god, this is the bane of my existence. it gets so bad with me that it's like a scab, it mats against my scalp and is HORRIBLE. i've used paul mitchell shampoo one, infusium 23, and the paul mitchell tea tree blend shampoo, and they all work pretty well and are affordable. if you can afford origins mint shampoo, that's stellar, but it's like $15 for a tube half the size of a normal bottle of shampoo. my issue is that i basically need to switch shampoos every three weeks or so, a cycle of two usually works pretty well. i totally sympathize, i've had this issue since i was in middle school, and it's year-round, it just gets really bad in winter. good luck. >___>

I got a bottle of the mint shampoo today. I'm going to try it out tonight and see how it works.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that has this problem! I mean, for a while I seriously felt like the only one.

Chlorine. west_ November 18 2005, 18:31:37 UTC
One factor: it may not be *all* you -- not all water is created equal. some has more chlorine than others, or you may be more sensitive to the chlorine in the winter.

a simple filter can be purchased from ebay for $10 to $20, that will last over a year between filter changes. install it just before your shower head (or it replaces your showerhead in some cases) and you will no longer be bathing in chlorine gasses. Chlorine is needed to clean the water as it gets to you, but once its comign out of the showerhead, you dont need it. its not like its a 'nutrient'.

I don't think it's cholorine -- we have an on-site well, so out water isn't treated. It is softened, though. Could that have something to do with it? Or perhaps other ground minerals in the water?

Tea tree oil. Dilute it: two or three drops (possibly a bit more if your problem is really bad) to a liter bottle of water. Use it as a head rinse, in the shower, after washing and conditioning. You don't HAVE to rinse it out (it works better if you don't rinse, or rinse minimally), but your hair will be kinda heavy and greasy if you don't rinse. Works for Mark and he's got the worst dandruff I've ever seen. *shudder*

It also works for other things (like chronic fucking yeast infections). I love tea tree oil.
