-Working my way SLOWLY through the first George R.R. Martin book. I love it. It's amazingly well-written for fantasy. I wish I had larger chunks of time to sit and read. I already have to make family tree charts and timelines. o.O
*insert maniacal laughter here*
If you want to borrow the next two versus buying them straight off, let me know. The 4th one comes out next month, freaking finally.
And the family tree charts will continue to come in handy as the plot thickens. *evil grin*
For Samhain, I currently have no real plans. I had a vague idea to put together a personal ritual of rememberance for the departed, especially after my Great-Uncle's passing a few days ago.
There's a bit of a Halloween bash at work on Friday, but as we know, that's not the same thing.
After reading your recent post with problems of faith, I had to chime in that honoring the ancestors is a great thing to do (especially this time of year, but it can be a year-round practice) when you're feeling disconnected from deity. At least for me, because then I feel like I'm both honoring someone who I KNOW is listening and doing something that makes me feel good and I don't have to bring all me deity hangups into the situation, yanno?
:squeals: yaaaaay GRRM!!! i'm rereading game of thrones too actually, and homg the whole series blows my fucking mind. the fourth one comes out here on my birthday!! :D
i don't have samhain plans yet.... i want to do a ritual with two of my friends over the weekend, but i'm not sure i'll get to. we're doing puca_project on sunday, i think, but even if i don't do it with them i'm going to do it alone on monday. and i might do a little ritual myself, though i've never done one before - do you have any recommendations of what's customary to do on samhain, especially if you're alone? <3
I usually go out in the back yard with a cigarette and a bottle of liquor. I find a place that feels nice (big back yard) and settle in. I smoke the cigarette slowly and think about those who've passed and offer up the smoke to them, a little bit of a habit they will never partake of again. The same with the alcohol. For every sip I take I pour a little out for the ancestors. When that's done I sit and meditate for a while and see if anyone shows up. After that, I thank the land, sea and sky, the spirits and the ancestors and run inside to stuff myself full of carb rich food. Oh, and leave a plate out for the ancestors that night, too. ^^
*hearts* George RR martin. Yah - those family trees and timelines will save your butt. I have been meaning to pick those books up again.
Ah finish work - I try to ignore it as long as possible. Of course I can't finish a few pieces untill my trim gets in from Calantir. *looks long suffering*
