Oh, Cana-- SNIKT!

This is kind of amusing.

Are Wolvie's Canadian roots being replaced by American Pie?

Who knows? Who cares.

Maybe he was recruited into an American military project. Lots of Canadians served in the US military and vice versa.

Then again, Wolverine isn't real.

But it does bring me to think of the following... I've been all over the US and Canada in my ( Read more... )

rambles, movies, what?, wolverine

Some people in the U.S. are definitely fucking dumb when it comes to Canada. I know that judo-wise, when it's tournament season and the Vancouver clubs come down, they mop the fucking mats with us.

That and I'm a total Georges St. Pierre fanboy.

Yeah, hockey IS the most popular sport here, which is pretty tough. I'm always surprised at how much people here know about the US and how it ticks politically. Though, on the flip-side, they usually know more about the US political system than their own! LOL

Another thing: People are -always- horrified when I talk about lobbying. From all ends of the political spectrum.

That's because in just about everywhere else in the world, they've had the right idea and word about lobbying: CORRUPTION.

Ding!

Lobbying is legal corruption. It's fucking sick and wrong, and anyone who supports it is a piece of shit.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention just how different Canada is wherever you go. Sure, the US is the same, but man, things can be night and day here.

California v West Virgina has nothing on BC v. Newfoundland.

I lived in Newfoundland for a year when I was 4. Don't remember much, but Dad had to iron the ice out from under the door to get it open in the morning, and we have a picture of me standing by the bay wearing shorts while an iceberg floats by in the sea behind me. We had a "basement" apartment which in Newfoundland meant ground floor. He still tells stories about people in the isolated communities who had to deal with scurvy and other problems over the winter.

And yes, too many Americans are whiny and think it's their right to have everything in life come easy.

Of course, now, in the Ultimate universe, Wolverine was an American soldier )and non-mutant) that got "sold" to the Canadian Weapon X program in WW2. (and Nick Fury was likewise given to the American super soldier serum project to experiment with). The Ultimate series sure are taking a nose dive in writing quality lately.

Oh, yes. I heard Millar is coming back, but honestly he wasn't doing so hot when he left. (Though I'd like to point out it was WAAAAAAY better than Loeb. HOLY. SHIT.)

Bendis is still doing good. I just got really sick of reading superhero titles in general.

I think the Ultimates universe will be canned in the near future. I heard rumblings it's run it's course and so forth. Especially since Ultimate U is becoming more and more like 616.

That'll be a shame because that's most of all the superhero comics I'm reading right now and they are beginning to suck. Honestly, re-envisioning superheroes is one thing, but they seem to be writing themselves into some serious corners right now. Even Authority sucks.

The Secret Invasion is pretty good. Skrull invasion and fifth column was a worthy excuse for the Civil War. Eventually, that will end, things will go back to the way they were, and I'll cease to be interested again and cancel all those Avenger subs I've got currently.

You check out Project Superpowers? It ain't bad. And then there's The Boys. But I don't consider it a "superhero book" (even though it -is- a superhero book lol).

I refuse to read Secret Invasion. Marvel liked to say Skrulls weren't going to equate into the Civil War mess, but we knew it would. I was kinda hoping the cosmic stuff would converge with the Earth stuff, but it really hasn't-- cept for maybe Hulk, but he went from awesome to fucking retarded pretty damned quick. There are elements I like going on with 616, but overall it just reminds me of why I dropped superhero comics in the first place.

DC still fails to make me interested in DCU (which must secretly translate to "The most boring, uninteresting shit ever. Period.")

I know there are people that think Canadians are soft. I have never been one of them. One of the toughest, scariest, and kindest men I know is from Canada. He is one of the few people I know who HAS survived on his own in the wilds for a couple of weeks, starting with nothing more than a knife.

People are incredibly self-sufficient here. That's not to say people in the States aren't, because many are. But people are -expected- to be prepared here. About a month ago I was out and one of the guys I was with made fun of another guy who admitted that hunting made him sick and he could never do it. It must be weird to be called a "city boy" by people who grew up in, you know, a city. LOL

hee. :)

Yeah, most of my canadian friends are HARD CORE but good natured and gentle too. They just don't have any silly illusions about anything in their lives, including what they eat.

I'm sorry, but I have to take issue here, I just can't agree...

"Wolverine isn't real."

What were you thinking, man?

I have been to Canada, it was nice, but my opinion of it is coloured by the fact that I went all the way there just to meet someone and effectively got stood up.

Would love to hit the Toronto Comic Con with OUC at some point.

True. The Wolverine being real thing is very debatable. Apologies!

I'd like to hit Toronto Comic Con one of these days, too. I hear it's quite a good time.
