Madness? Sure. Maybe.

Holy Crap, I just saw the SALVUS* pin-up I asked for, in its full-colour glory, and I have to say: I'm really goddamned impressed. I will most certainly share it soon.

(*SALVUS is the historical adventure-fantasy comic I'm writing with Josh Wagner.)

Anyway, Orcusville appears completely overrun in OUT. OF. CONTROL.:

The lemurs strip is a reference to a rathergood.com video, yet?

Indeed. I felt it was a nice aside in light of all the lemurs and lemur barbarians that have been popping up on O-Ville.

Wow, I caught one of your obscure references!

Oh, and I couldn't disagree more with your assessment of Watchmen, the comic, and your hopes for the movie. I think it will have all the gravitas of Transformers.

I find something new in the comic upon every rereading.

Really? Huh. well, everyone is different, so that's cool.

I'm not saying it's bad... In fact! It's excellent. For it's time especially. Alan Moore is a personal hero of mine, so don't get me wrong. But if I'm to be honest, I just don't find it all that interesting anymore. Sorry.

A movie -might- be exactly what it needs to seem fresh again. Maybe. I'm betting on that rather than buying yet another re-package of the same damned comic. You know?

Not only do I agree with Kevin Church in that a movie just doesn't seem capable of capturing the depth and insight of a story written specifically for the comic medium (whereas Stan Lee always dreamed his work would lead him to Hollywood), but also that we're talking about the director who couldn't decide whether 300 should be filmed normal or in slow motion, and split the entire movie between two speeds.

Church has some good points (and so do you). Snyder did awesome with Dawn of the Dead, but 300 was merely okay (and dont get me started on the hist-- ARGH!!!).

We'll see. You know, if he can maintain the spirit of the story, that's good enough for me. In fact, it's okay for movies to deviate a bit from their source material.

But if it ends up like Constantine? Well, yeah. We can hope it won't.

that review of T5 seems to indicate that aliens are included in the basic rules (almost a first for Traveller editions!), but could you let me know which aliens are included?

i do need to get that, as i have every Traveller edition except T20 (and the pdf-published ones like Traveller Hero and d6 Traveller). unfortunately, my priorities right now are more oriented toward GURPS (Thaumaturgy comes out next month!), Riddle of Steel, and Dark Heresy.

also, Watchmen is still one of the greatest sequential art stories. the movie looks good so far - i worry about the story.

Yes, greatest-- I agree.

But if it were released today? In print? Hmmm... Now to being the argument "Would comics be the same if Watchmen never existed?"!

(My answer is "Probably, as something similar would have stepped into that void. Watchmen is a reflection of a budding trend in comics and their readers. As well as storytelling in that medium. It was a culmination of Moore's vision regarding good writing at the time.")

asking about it being released today is akin to asking about Moby Dick being released today. it wouldn't, obviously, due to stylistic elements.

i think that your answer is probably substantially correct.

Already a love-hate relationship. I love the Watchemen, and the trailer was great. But I HATE HATE HATE Billy Corrigan and the Smashing Punpkins. I would rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard than his voice. Don't know what it is, but the milisecond I hear it on the radio, its off or swittched.

Pumpkins hate! Preach it!

I actually don't mind Corgan. But that's just me.
