This deserved its own entry.

I saw this around in a couple places, and I just had to post about it.

Teacher lets Morningside students vote out classmate, 5

Here's some info:  "Melissa Barton said she is considering legal action after her son's kindergarten teacher led his classmates to vote him out of class.
After each classmate was allowed to say what they didn't like about ( Read more... )

It may not be legal to beat her with sticks, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't happen.

Awesome. Yeah, after posting my reply I just read the whole article, and that comment jumped out at me, too.

I guess she'll learn what happens when adults get all mob-justice crazy, instead of a bunch of 5 years talked into "voting".

Ain't freedom grand?

Lost for words.

Why isn't this teacher now being repeatedly punched in the face?

Wow. That's truly disgusting. I hope she gets her teaching license revoked.

That's my hope, too.

It's not that the kid was removed-- because if he's really disruptive, I completely understand if that happens and is handled in the best way possible. I mean, I don't know of any K teachers when we were kids that pulled this shit.

Voting? What kind of perversion of democracy is that? And all it does is teach these kids that in many ways, democracy is just mob-rule if not properly implemented.

Not just the voting, but everybody telling the kid - to his face - why they don't like him? Unacceptable.

There are many reasons I don't want to have children. Giving them into the hands of irresponsible teachers was one I hadn't thought about.

This is certainly a fear of ours, though we have been made to understand the system here in BC is pretty good. It was described to us by one educator as "like the better public American schools were in the 80s and 90s". 'O thank you, Canada.

Though no system is perfect, or completely flawed. Hurdles we'll have to deal with should they pop up.

I was trying to avoid that...
ETA: Oh wait! I was thinking it was the personal email info I saw earlier-- no, no, this is perfect! Post updated to reflect this too. Thanks!

BUT

You know what? You're right.

She needs to learn what its like when the class picks on her, the media being the teacher this time.

I guess I never learned how to play nice. An adult takes advantage of children's innocence and that adult deserves to get served with every ounce of fire power available. Ignorance is not an excuse.

Oh, I agree with you here. I just think emailing her directly wouldn't be very effective.

Deluging her bosses with demands for Justice?
