Drew, Our Spiritual Networker

Not very long ago, maybe a couple of hours at most, I got word from an old friend that another old friend of mine, Drew, was killed by way of trash compactor a few days ago. A pretty horrible way to go, I imagine. A completely inadequate and hastily written article footnote about it can be found here.

Even though I haven't seen Drew for eight or ( Read more... )

I am sorry about the loss of your friend. The situation sounds pretty suspicious to me.

I agree with you about the Spokane Police. They're about as difficult to snow as a senile grandmother when it comes to actually doing work. I get the impression they'd rather be busting teenage girls for drunk driving and offering them a "way out" or confiscating a house because a teenager had a single pot plant on their closet than actually investigating a crime where some one was hurt.

Having used many trash compactors in my life, I can say with some assurety that one lacking a kill switch if a button is not being actively depressed would be extremely illegal because of the danger. Perhaps they'd jury-rigged it so bypass the safety feature so one person could shove stuff in while it was compacting, but that ranks up there with using a table saw without a guard.

I'm pretty harsh on the Spokane Police, I'll admit. Bad experiences will do that. When I had money and didn't look like a punk, they were pretty cool over all. I'm sure they would be awesome to me now.

Too sarcastic, you think? But, to be fair, I suppose most places would have said what they said right off the bat. I -am- pretty curious to see how fair play isn't involved. I don't know enough about the details other than to merely suspect, but it does make me wonder...

We'll see.

And yeah, I've never seen a trash compactor where people could easily kill themselves.

"Fair play"?

Doh, "foul play", rather.
