to start an animal sanctuary that serves double-time as a sanctuary/shelter for LGBTQ youth.

But good grief how do you even start such a thing with no money and no experience?

PS Perplexed is a very good word. It needs to be listed in the moods option

This is one of my biggest gripes -- celebrities who don't help animals

Oh hellyeah! I'd say Bob Barker has put some money where his mouth is, but what about people like Alicia Silverstone - not only is she profiting from being a sometimes-vegan celebrity, okay, I'll stop here because I don't know if she's ever donated millions of dollars. Maybe she has and has kept it quiet. It's possible. But given celebrity propensity for self-aggrandizing, I'm sort of doubtful. These people make literally millions of dollars. I'm think even half a million dollars to a sanctuary would be a huge blessing for the animals and practically a drop in the bucket of celebrity banking. If I were rich and famous, okay, I might have a house in Germany and one in the states, but I would give so much of it away. I just don't get it, either.

hehe, well, Alicia disappointed me greatly earlier this year with her comments on vegans as harsh and "icey" and her backing down to trying cheese with some wine so she could somehow "prove" that vegans aren't inflexible. Which I found offensive, not even particularly towards me, but towards cows and other vegans and AR activists who spend most of their waking time (and their money) to walk their talk regardless of what the public thinks of them (because the public is frequently going to think badly of us) - and not somehow apologizing for vegans as a whole. Rather than trashing meat-eaters Silverstone trashed vegans. In a very public forum (Oprah, where you know the audience must have been relieved to hear it, so worried they undoubtedly were by Oprah's vegan experience. Ugh ( ... )
