I think it's time for an update~! (●^▽^●)

...I have cavities (・_・ )
*sobs into the nearest shoulder* Talk about bad timing! I need to save up for Japan, but taking care of myself is definitely important as well, right?

I immediately got one of the cavities removed and fillings added, which came out to $119.16. The pain was okay... They had to give me ( Read more... )

my wallet will soon be in tears, cavities, dentists

You could come to Romania if you want - I'm not sure how expensive the ticket is from where you are but a root canal here is like...sixty-seventy bucks maybe?

I've heard that dentists outside are expensive...but darn it this is too much! Many foreigners come here because of good service and low bills though so win/win for us I suppose. ♥

*hug*

I'd solve you for free but I'm not in the position to do root canals right now. And I don't dare even though I've witnessed it being done before...
*sigh* (darn unending studentship...)

Wow, so cheap!! But the ticket alone would be over $1,000 so it's not worth it XD Plus I am sure I need some sort of visa first to get into Romania, haha :D
But are you a dentist Andreea? I didn't know O:!!

I don't remember the exact cost, but it was somewhere in the upper $800s so I said $900... But even then, $800-something is too expensive, huh @__@

I am pretty sure I paid around $750-$1000 for the crown and the root canal. I had no insurance.

Yeah, the $900 is AFTER insurance deductions... So I'm looking at maybe $1000+ for without the crown... I could go dig up the paper they gave me for specifics, but I'm sure that's what it was. Ugh...

I scheduled an appointment with the uni's health center, hopefully they can recommend a cheaper dentist. The one thing I liked about that dentist was that they were very credible and everyone I knew recommended him >__<.

Dentistry is way too expensive here too. There was an exposé about it on the news a while back. It's one of the two health sectors that are not subsidised by the government. The other is optometry. There was one student who had a NZ$3000 bill for getting a root canal. It costs about NZ$400 to get your teeth pulled in my city, about 1/2 the cost in other cities. Meanwhile, one of the dentists that featured in the exposé said that it was not expensive. Perhaps not for someone on his salary.

I don't even know in detail how the US healthcare system works... I really should =.= I know I should be more aware, so then I can support the lawmakers who are making beneficial healthcare decisions @___@ But geeze! NZ$3000... What's the average income in New Zealand? O_O I hope it's higher than the US by a lot or NZ is dentists are on crack for charging so much...

When I was a student living on my two scholarships, I was getting about $1250 a fortnight. But only a priviledge few get those. My sister's currently getting about $150 per week on student allowance. The average income is under $50k per year (prior to taking off income tax), it works out to about $30-35k which is same as my scholarship. Not sure whether that's higher than the US, but we're definitely behind Australia.

We have an ok health system, most meds are subsidised by the government, especially for low income earners. This is because we have one government-run body (Pharmac) that negotiates cheap prices for meds. My Dad's meds would probably cost him $1000s p/a if there wasn't a subsidy.

Scholarships is one of the things I didn't get in college, but I feel like I totally qualify for is scholarships... I came as an out of state student, and got tuition reduced to in-state price, I still felt jipped, because I feel like with my academic background I deserved to have a full ride, but whatever :X I feel like I kind of let my parents down in that respect D:

But yeah, your average annual income is similar to the US, maybe a little more~ It's always a little skewed because of the outliers (*coughsinsanelyrichpeeps* So I think your dental care prices are definitely ridiculous!

Yay for Pharmac though! The US needs something similar '>___>...

The worst part about visiting the dentist is the BILL!!!! Good gravy, it's crazy!!! :\ $900 is a bit too much. They're not the only dentist, so I hope you find someone more reasonable x-x

c: That was so nice of the nurse to stay with you through the procedure! Nice people do exist!! *faints*

Yeah... =.= I hope so... But with how busy I've been, I haven't had time :( and now I think I have cavities in another teeth on the other side of my mouth *pounds fist into desks but makes sure not to hurt her precious desk* T^T

Yeah o-o My mom never did anything intimate like that, so it was super comforting!! I felt like a 3 year old who just scraped her knees or something, and the mommy would be hugging me to soothe me... But ya, when I was little my parents would be like "toughen up! it's just a scraped knee" '>__> Which is one of the reasons I think I'm so hard on people :|

Ya... Wow I just said a lot more than I intended, hope you didn't get bored @_@
