Novel Notes: A Scathingly Brilliant Idea

Nov 24, 2008 15:45

So there I was, one day last week (not Thursday), goofing around. I was on the couch, clicker in hand, surfing, desperately surfing for something to distract me. The TV offered up nothing, and an hour later, I found myself watching commercials. I checked the clock. It was 8:30, and I’d accomplished nothing. Done nothing, cleaned nothing, organized ( Read more... )

LOL! Sound like normal days. Why do you mind sounding pornographic?

My first goal is that the reviews have a balance of squee with thoughtful commentary. Sometimes, I get carried away with squee. Plus, I try to keep the reviews at a PG rating, so people can read them at work.

I gave up television three years ago and haven't regretted a single moment since.
i miss maybe one or two shows, but i'm such a movie fanatic that all i need is a dvd player and a sketch book X)
besides, star trek isn't on tv anymore :(
i watch supernatural at a friends house, whereas we mute any and all commercials. it's seriously the only live television i'll do.

the internet though? yah. maybe i'd give that up if i had something better to do. i swear. no, really.

Really? I'm amazed, I've heard from a few people who say the same, and it's like a secret club that I didn't know existed to which I now belong. : D

I'm still in addict mode, I still keep looking at the TV and thinking "I'll just go take a look." But I locked myself in and there's NO cable to be found, so I'll just have to jones for a while and go through the DT's.

I'll wager that since you've given it up, your creativity has gone up? I'm hoping mine will.

As for the internet, it's for porn, and THAT's important. : D

my creativity has indeed gone up :3 i don't stare at the television with a blank face anymore, and comercials don't make me jump/steal my soul. i've gotten really good at simply listening while i do other things, and it helps a great deal. i have a lot of dvd's, but that doesn't bother me, considering that most of my collection consists of things i love and not just have for the sake of having.
hence why i felt no guilt whatsoever in owning the spn boxsets. sure, it's tv, but i can play them on my own time, without comercials, and listen to them while still knowing what's going on.
it's amazing what happens to your creativity when the choices aren't being made for you.

welcome to the club. we have buttons...somewhere. X)

Ohhhh! Buttons, I love those!
I think I've almost broken my addiction, and am waiting for my muse to HIT me. : D

Over here in the UK those of us with NTL cable lost out when NTL had a fight with Sky. I was reduced to the five terrestrial channels and the crappy reality/gameshow/old reruns that ntl were left with. So my TV watching was cut off at the knee. But after the first few weeks of cold turkey In did not miss it at all. All the TV shows I love and watch I could get off my son's torrent cache. When it works. I have now got my own because I cannot be without Spn ( ... )

"Make it GO!"???

Oh, my GOD you made me laugh! Which is a pretty neat trick considering how early it is here. : D

I'm going to get a new pc and have a friend who has hooked me up with download sites, for I cannot be without something to watch, I just won't be tied to the TV's schedule, nor will I have to put up with commercials.

Drafts are definately the hardest part, don't let anyone tell you any different. Revisions are easy, because even when they're hard, it's not like you have to invent something out of nothing. You've got everything there, it just all has to come together.

I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on those other eps!

Yeah, luckily for me, my son is an AV Tech :) Over the next few days I'm going to force(!!) myself to do some rewatching, then I'll get back to you.
