You can read my review of the Supernatural episode “Simon Said” at pinkraygun.com. Thank you!

An excerpt:

"The last of the visions comes during the car right at night. I envy Andy in this scene as Dean drives along; I like to imagine what must it be like to be able to hang out in the back seat of the Impala like that. Or to lean forward over the ( Read more... )

Simon says..."Everybody love SUPERNATURAL!!!" (And lo, everybody loves Supernatural!) I'm glad you enjoyed this review, and it was totally my pleasure to write it.

And I had no idea it was your fave EVAH. It had so many good bits, plus I adored Andy, which I don't usually do with secondary characters. He was so charming and sweet. Plus Dean was somehow more badass than his normal self, and Sam, so potent and dangerous. They did such a great job, all the way around. : D

Yeah, Andy was a very nice guy. Too bad they had to kill him in the end. It's good to see him back in the future. And Sammy. He's dangerous yet very vulnerable.
"Simon Said" is my fave, along with "Nightmare". So, you see the pattern here? :))

Nightmare is Max Miller, right? I do see the pattern, both Andy and Max are psychic kids...did you like Nightmare because of Max?

Oh, I so love secondary characters that are like Andy. But the boys of course will always remain my favorites. Thanks for reviewing this episode. I love revisiting my favorites and hearing what other's think.

I must say you write such beautiful and quirky reviews. I think I enjoyed your review almost as much as the episode. Thanks for that.

Beautiful and quirky? Wow! You can visit my LJ anytime!

I started writing the reviews for a number of reasons, one of which was because I couldn't find any reviews that talked about the things I was interested in.

Either they were super serious and short and written by journalists who were only were only writing a certain number of lines to keep their byline going, AND they would never talk about the part in Sam's hair. Or they were all squee (which is fun, too) but no discussion of metaphors and stuff like that. I wanted something more inbetween, so off I went. I'm VERY glad you're enjoying the results!

Honestly, I wish I had the patience to write reviews like this. I think I lean towards the serious and short (in other words boring) style myself. Don't really think I'd do the squee thing myself but you are right they are fun to read.

But it seems my patience will only allow for fanfics, and an occasional digital art. I certainly will keep an eye out for your other reviews. I really enjoyed reading this.

Well, short and serious can be good, if it says what you want it to say. I get overly wordy myself. All of my reviews are tagged with "episode" and "spn" and "review (or maybe reviews), and there's, um, over 40 of them by now. Enjoy!

Do you have any fanfics you've particularly enjoyed? I'll read pretty much anything if it's good.

I thought nobody but me had noticed how fast Dean stopped the car when Sam started to get out in the middle of his vision, how fast he made it to Sam's side, and how Sam clutched at him as his only contact with reality as he came out of the vision.

It's always been one of my favorite scenes, right after "Bend this," and, "I know where we need to go. Vegas," and the I'm-not-freaked look he gives Sam at the end of Nightmare.

My other favorite thing from Simon Said is when Sam's sat on the median strip watching the EMTs take the body away from being hit by the bus, and as the camera turns the corner, Dean's hand just draws away from where he'd had it against Sam's back: contact, I'm here, I've got you.

Nice review. I enjoy reading your point of view.

You and me and three other fans noticed the very same thing, I'm certain of it. I've noticed that when Sam falls, he reaches for Dean - it's instinctive. This episode had a lot of that, which made it so cool.

And the whole idea of what Dean really thinks of Sam's psychic nature is fun too - Dean is freaked, of course, but he never wanted Sam to know it. Now Sam knows!

Yeah, that scene with the EMT, it's a classic. Dean's touch is all Sam needs sometimes, but even that time it didn't work.

I'm glad you enjoyed the reivew! It's always more fun to share an ep with a fellow fan. : D

I know you wrote this about a skillion years ago now, but I'm still in catch-up mode. I'm starting here because I just watched "No Rest for the Wicked" again, & I need to geek out over a part of Show that probably won't kill me with the angst. At least not with so much distance on it; I remember being really affected by this episode when I saw it the first time.

I shake my head; the Roadhouse lets me down each and ever time.

I like the idea of the Roadhouse, the glimpse it gives us of the wider world, & what its existence calls into question for the boys, but I sometimes wish Show had either really committed to the stories and characters tied up with it, or else left it alone.

Andy looks to be about five foot something inches, you know, not tall.Aw, Andy. I was sad to lose him in "All Hell". I liked the idea that the boys could have called on him in some hypothetical hour of need (like, say, to talk law enforcement off their trail). Plus, I have kind of a soft spot for him. I have no way of knowing for sure, but based ( ... )

They could have used him so much more, the boys need friends, but I think Show has killed off ALL of those in Season 3......

Really, Show's m.o. has always been to establish a potential support system (or at least network of contacts) & then cut a bloody swathe through them in the run-up to the finale. I shouldn't be surprised anymore.

Not a diss against Sam, I think it's realistic that when Dean goes DOWN, Sam's beside himself as to how to comfort, what to do first...I mean, I think 3.09 is the one with the witches, right?

Yeah, 3.09 is the one with the witches & the title I can't spell. I think it's fitting that Sam should be less comfortable in that role. My feeling is that he's had less practice (at reassuring his brother in any case; I imagine he still does a mean 'soothing the civillians'), since Dean has spent a lot of energy & a lot of their lives trying to conceal his needs to that effect.

Bobby is next, I tell you.

And I can't spell it either! I think you are right, Sam is not as comfortable. One of my favorite images of Sam is in Faith, where Dean is in the hospital, and Sam is at the motel, his face all damp from crying, chewing on his nails. He's been searching for DAYS for an answer to the crisis...if Dean were in his position, he'd be at Sam's bedside, cheering him up, bugging him into health. Hiding how he really feels. I think Sam's way is healthier, and it certainly pushes my angst buttons to see him chewing on his nails as he weeps!
