FFVIII is, and always will be, my all-time favorite game. I adored Squall, and it was the first game in which I felt completely immersed. I'm thrilled to hear someone else love on it as much as me, because it got a lot of flack for deviating from a lot of the things that had made FFVII so popular. FFVII was really great, too, and I looooved Cloud -- but I thought FFVIII was special.
I skipped FFVIIII and went to FFX, which was astoundingly beautiful for the time, but lacked something in the heart-and-soul department. I bought FFX-2 when it came out, but I still have it wrapped in its original cellophane! I never finished X, so never bothered with the sequel.
I haven't played any of the later installments, but I'm sad to hear that the experience has declined.
Hey Julie. I too LOVED FFX. I cried at the end and often miss the story. I tried the one after that and I was so disappointed, I never went back. I don't think I even knew they kept going after that nightmare.
I didn't think much of 12. That was always going to be the sticking point for 13 with me, that it would have to be extra good for me to bother hunting down a backwards compatible PS3. 7-10 are amazing, amazing games, though admittedly I didn't like 10 much at first. Square have just seemed to focus on graphics to the exclusion of plot, and it doesn't work.
