Me Day - what I do for fun these days

As is usual for me, I gave myself a day of vacation for my birthday. I ran a few errands this morning, and then spent the rest of the day working on my keying tool. It's still in pre-pre-pre-alpha, but there's enough there now to give a general idea of how it works, if you're interested in such things: Read more... )

The page loaded fine. I had trouble deciding between similar features (is it medium or big?, a cluster or a clump?) but I was also trying to ID a black chanterelle from memory and pictures on the internet, so I'm not surprised my list of possible mushrooms was empty. I like the idea of multiple candidates.

The similar features thing shouldn't be a problem - mushroom traits are not exclusive. E.g. for size a black chanterelle may have three entries: small (sometimes), medium (often), and big (sometimes). Any one of the three will still get you a black chanterelle, and the frequencies are used for ordering when there are multiple possible answers.

The exclusivity problem is one of the big things that drove me crazy about binary keys, so one of the main point of my project is to create a keying system that's more flexible. Trait values can have one of 6 frequencies (never, rarely, sometimes, often, usually, or always). In a traditional binary key a trait value essentially has only two options, never or always.

Anyway, thanks for checking it out, and for letting me know that Safari worked fine for it!
