Definitely know what you mean about feeling homesick especially at this time of the year. Lots of luck with your proposal and getting what you need for study and research. The world is your oyster sashimi. ^_^

And funnily enough, *points to your icon* it's been a very warm winter here - no snow as yet. (Yes, I'm aware it's not technically winter 'til the solstice, but you know what I mean!)

As bad as it makes me sound, I don't think I'd mind being away from my family (unless my dad had another heart attack/stroke). When I was in the hospital for spine surgery I was there for awhile and I enjoyed my time away from home (but not the hospital food), especially from my annoying brother. But it sounds like you really miss your family, they must be a great group of peoples, I hope you get your leave of absence so you can see them (and bring me my xmas present...right!? LOL)
