.053 Earth
Sydney Alexis
The grass was damp and cold beneath his feet as he followed his giggling son into the backyard. Arms thrown out at his side, held tilted back, Gus ran in huge circles making plane noises that sounded more like a rickety old by-plane than the 747 the kid had flown down on.
Gus stopped, mid-motion in front of his father. Small body still swaying from constant motion, Brian reached out to steady the kid before he keeled over.
"Careful."
Smiling brightly, Gus hugged his dad around the middle.
"I'm always careful when I'm flying, Daddy."
"Oh?"
"Mom said that you should always make sure people you love about are buckled in so no one will get hurt," Gus started, tilting his head slightly. "You and Justin are always careful, too, aren't you, Daddy?"
Biting his lower lip at his son's innocent question and the implications of it, Brian responded, "Yeah, Sonny Boy, we are."
With a nod, smile, and quick hug, Gus took off again 'flying' around Brighton's backyard.
As Brian stood and watched his kid with the faintest of smiles on his face, he realized that maybe he'd always be earth bound, but at least his son had learned how to fly.
