Charlie Broussard was the lamest boy Gus had ever met. Shaggy, not-quite blond almost silver hair, gray-blue eyes, and dumb as a fence post.

Well...not dumb exactly. Just slow. And not Uncle Mikey slow or riding the short bus slow. He was the type of person that seemed like he'd done too much pot.

Charlie was the one that always came up with the hair-brained schemes that Gus would gleefully follow along with. Not that he'd ever admit it or anything, but they always seemed like a good idea at the time.

Of course, Gus was the one that seemed to get caught all the time. Not that it stopped him or anything.

"Why are we doing this again?"

Charlie rolled his eyes. "Because, man, if we're going to be investigative reporters we totally have to follower the perp."

Behind him, Gus snickered. "Charlie, you watch way too much Law and Order, man."

"Shut up. It's better than that shit you read."

This time, Gus rolled his eyes and pulled his jacket tighter around him. "I still don't get why we're tailing..."

"Shhh!" Charlie warned, pushing them both back behind the dumpster. "He's coming."

Heavy footfalls neared the alleyway. A lighter snicked on and the smell of burning tar filled the tiny space.

"When you're finished playing Spies with you 'wittle friend,' your moms want you home for dinner," Brian said, not bothering to look at the kids before walking towards his rental car.

Charlie punched Gus in the arm. "You fucking told, man."

"Nah. My dad's just that smart," Gus said, walking in the same direction Brian had a moment before. Charlie fell into step and started outlining all the 'evidence' that supported his theory.

It was after Brian dropped Charlie off at his mom's house that he caught his kid's eye in the rearview mirror.

"Do I even want to know what all that shit was about?"

Gus started laughing. "Ever since I told Charlie about the whole Rage thing he's convinced you work for the CIA or something."

As he listened to his dad laugh as he drove them back towards Chez Muncher, Gus amended his earlier thoughts; maybe Charlie was as lame as his Uncle Michael, but it was all good.
