My main name hangup is that if I'll ever have sons, I want them to inherit my surname in the feminine form (Suhinina), not the masculine (Suhinin). Simply because my name is Suhinina, why should their name be different? And I'm not dropping it, my father has no siblings and neither have I, I have to keep up the great tradition of forwarding a surname that I got from a man that No One Has Ever Met.

Jag tror att man kan ge sina söner den maskulina formen. Det är annars rätt standard att utvandrade ryssar antar den maskulina versionen av efternamnet, i alla fall efter någon generation.

I don't think parents should make their child go through with that just to prove a point. You can't rewrite culture by law, it has to change little by little. Or else it will be like this poor guy.

Får man ta ett namn med hexadecimalkod, "l33t" eller nåt liknande då?

It also means that people can change their names regardles of their biological sex, which is quite important from a transexual perspective, since it would mean that people are able to change their names to a name that fits the gender they are chaning into without having to wait for the proper legal change of social security numbers and all that. Nowadays you can get hormones and some surgery before the legal change, but NOT change your name to anything but gender neutral names before the legal change unless you work really damn hard for it. It usually takes some years from when you've got hormones to the legal change, which means people are expected to live as a man or a woman, but with a name that belongs to the oposite sex, and that can be quite annoying.

Fi are saying that they are going to push for HBT rights, and I guess this might be part of that. It sure isn't going to get me to me vote for them, though. :P

You know, I figured it had something to do with that. Also if one was born as intersexual it be nice if the parents don't have to tick the "girl or boy?" box with everything.
Tradition should still make it that most "Pelle" are boys and most "Lisa" are girls - and the few who aren't, well, they prolly have the kind of parents who give the children unusual names anyway.

But I don't like Fi because, gah, there are so many morons there and I have really lost all respect for Schyman. She's just trying to hang on, she's gotta be a party leader and I just feel this is doing feminism more bad than good

::nodnod:: Suspected it was mostly for HBT-reasons. Naming your child "wrong" is one thing, but I see no reasosn why adults should not be able to change names as they wish.
